Liberty Single, square tank, no serial #
This motor is the second version of Caille's square tank Liberty Single. Note the cast aluminum exhaust. That is the big tip off.

There is an obvious and rather clumsy repair to the top of the gas tank.
That welded piece does not belong and the tank should lift off the support on the back of the cylinder. On the top there would have been a small handle.

This is the second model Liberty Single square tank and it's missing a few bits: sliding door on the battery box, tiller handle, gas line from the tank to the mixing valve and both transom pads. The hold down plate on the top of the gas tank is not original. The priming cup on the side of the cylinder is of the wrong type.

Even with all these problems it's a nice motor with very good decals. The missing parts are easily replaced. I'll leave the gas tank as is, I think.



Liberty Single #40582; This Liberty Single is noteworthy for several reasons.

Most importantly it has a frame mounted magneto which is not common (Liberty Singles were also produced with a magneto in the flywheel).

The serial number is on the exhaust as is the letter "M" which obviously indicates magneto.

Secondly, this motor has an aluminum transom clamp, also not common.

And last it has the lifting handle which was shipped with all Liberty singles, but it usually has been lost.

Liberty Single #36476; This Liberty Single has a magneto in the flywheel and in one pic you can see the cover has been moved aside so there is access to the points for adjustment.

Img 7021 shows the serial number in the most often found spot which is on the side of the transom clamp under the exhaust. These numbers are often very difficult to see because they were stamped on, sometimes without much enthusiasm. If the number isn't here look on the exhaust manifold. Every once on awhile you'll find it elsewhere on the transom clamp.
